| | ACES This Summer | | ACES has a lot going on this summer! From weekly Natural History hikes, to kid's and adult NFS classes, we've got something for everyone!  Be sure to check out our website, to register for Kid's and Adult programs and to learn about different events at our sites this summer. Here's a small sampling: - This, Saturday, July 2, we will be at the Saturday Market in the ACRA non- profit booth. Come stop by, pick up a brochure and say hello to the turtle and the snake!
- Starting on July 7 we will have donation based yoga with the Aspen Yoga Society. Come to Hallam Lake every Tuesday at 5:15to unwind on the preserve (weather permitting). Please bring your own mat. We usually have one or two extras floating around if you want to try yoga out!
- The Jessica Catto Leadership Dialogues sponsors the Aspen Business Luncheon on Monday, July 25. Stay tuned for speaker announcement!

| Adult Summer Classes* | | Tuesdays, July 5, August 9, 9am - 2pm Join an ACES naturalist, Olivia Siegel and Aspen Yoga Societyinstructor, Gina Murdock for a day of connecting to the landscape. This program includes a beautiful hike punctuated by an outdoor yoga practice. Tuesday, July 12, 9am - 5pm The top twenty miles of the Roaring Fork Valley offer incredible biological diversity. This full day field class will investigate the factors that determine the distribution of animals and plants across our landscape. Friday, July 15 - Sunday July 17, 9am - 5pm Learn the tricks of the trade from award-winning local photojournalist and commercial photographer Pete McBride. Explore composition, lighting, photo-essays, SLR video and editing during a fun, intense, 3-day workshop around the Aspen area. Monday, July 18 & Thursday July 21, 9am -5pm Come learn alongside the experts about your own DNA and how it relates to field studies such as Kayce Anderson's recent work of constructing butterfly lineages throughout South America. Saturday, July 23, 10am - 12 pm Explore the Hope Mine on an exciting field trip to learn about a cutting edge restoration project that uses biochar to reclaim toxic mine waste.Tour one of Aspen's historic silver mines and learn about the impact mines have on our environment and the ways we can restore them back to their natural state. |
| Hallam Lake Kid's Classes | | July 5 - July 8, 9:30am - 3:30pm, Ages 7 - 10 Penny Greenwell Every day/hour/moment at the pond is a different pallet of colors, mood, texture. We'll record, research, remember as many as we can and interpreted them in collages, photos and photo-collages, paintings, prints and mixed media creations. July 12 - July 14, Overnight, Ages 11-14 This three day seminar for teens will take you backpacking into the Wilderness surrounding Aspen, while cultivating environmental ethics, stewardship and outdoor leadership skills. Saturdays, 9:30am - 11:30 am, All Ages Come explore alongside your own children; little people are big examples of how to be in nature. See the outdoor surroundings with the fresh eyes, curiosity and imagination that children instinctively have. Can you answer that classic question, 'WHY?'
July 18 - 23, 9am - 3pm, Ages 6-7 Discover what lurks beyond the "wildlife only" signs and what makes ACES such a magical place! During this new week-long class learn to use the nature detectives' tools, which will be the key to unlocking the mysteries of Hallam Lake.
July 18 - July 22, 9:30am - 3:30pm, Ages 11-14 Collaboration with Aspen Writer's Foundation Explore your connection to the natural world during this week-long writing camp that combines outdoor adventure with the magic of words.
July 25 - July 29, 9:30am - 3:30pm, Ages 9-11 Collaboration with Aspen Art Museum With science in the morning and art in the afternoon, participants in this workshop will learn about the Pleistocene era-when crazy creatures, like the Mastadon found in the Ziegler reservoir, roamed the slopes-and then build their own prehistoric sculptures.

Rock Bottom Ranch Kid's Classes
| |  July 5 - July 6, 9am - 3 pm, Ages 8 -10 Take a trip back to the good old days when folks knew how to take care of themselves. Learn how to make your own cheese, soap, candles, entertainment, and more! This two-day class is full of stories, old-time activities, and surprises. Bring your cowboy hat and boots! July 12 - July 15, 9am - 3pm, Ages 8 - 10 Take on the skills and responsibilities of a real rancher! Be in charge of rotational grazing of the ranch animals and have fun stomping through streams to navigate and make maps of local river systems. Milk the goats so we can make cheese for pizza with veggies harvested from our gardens! July 13, 10am - 2pm, Ages 5 - 7 Meet the rare breed baby chicks, hens, and roosters. Collect eggs, learn about what makes a chicken a chicken, and explore that age-old question: Chicken or the Egg? July 19, 9am - 3pm, Ages 7 - 10 Spend some serious time in the garden digging in the dirt, tending to all sorts of things that grow, and looking for wiggly worms. Make magic happen by learning how to turn a seed into a living, edible plant. July 20 - July 22, 9am - 3pm, Ages 7 - 10 Create art projects inspired by the plants and animals of our ranch! Participants will make silk paintings, craft mosaic stepping-stones, and work on an installation art piece to spruce up RBR! July 28, 10am - 2pm Ages 8 -10 Come learn all about snakes and explore the beautiful and often misunderstood world of these colorful creatures. Children will gather a practical knowledge of how snakes live and function in the world while coming into contact with their own sense of creativity and wonder. August 3 - August 5, 9am - 3pm, Ages 11 - 14 Test your wilderness survival skills during this fun camping trip! Learn the ethics of Leave-No-Trace-Camping, make rope from wild plants, and become an expert shelter architect. You'll learn how to make fire with a homemade bow-drill then use those newly practiced fire skills to cook dinner in a Dutch Oven! |
Thank you Members! | |  Annual Membership Dinner A Great Success! Despite rain and unseasonably chilly temperatures our Annual Membership dinner on June 20th was hugely successful!
