ACES Membership Dinner  

Monday, June 20th, 5:30pm

Hallam Lake 


ACES' annual membership dinner dinnerwill feature dinner, drinks, and the indie-pop bluegrass band Paper Bird.  This seven-piece band from Denver has a joyful, vintage sound.

Online registration for this event is going on now until June 17th. The cost is $20 per person, kids 12 and under are free.
At the door is $25 per person so register online today!

Yoga? Naturally!

Tuesdays, June 7, July 5, August 9, 9am - 2pm 

Join an ACES naturalist and Gina, a yoga instructor with Aspen Yoga Society for a day of connecting to the landscape. This program includes a beautiful hike punctuated by an outdoor yoga practice.

 

Home Composting 

Saturday, June 11, 9am - 12pm, at Rock Bottom Ranch 

Tired of donating to the landfill? Make compost! In this workshop, we will learn how to design and build different compost systems and how to effectively turn your food scraps into future feasts!

 

Morning Birding at ACES

Thursdays, June 16 - August 11, 6am - 9am

Discover the abundant bird life of Aspen. Birders of any experience level are welcome. Bring your binoculars and guidebooks or borrow ours. Coffee will be brewing and birds will be singing!

 

Wildflower Walks

Saturdays, June 18, July 16 & 30, August 13, 9am - 3pm

Join local naturalist and Wild at Heart field guide author Janis Huggins on wildflower walks throughout the summer. Discover interesting folklore, historic uses, pollination strategies and more.

 

Pine Beetle Hike

Wednesday, June 22, 9am - 12pm

Learn more about local pine beetle activity with ACES Executive Director Tom Cardamone and John Bennett of For the Forest. 

 

Morning Birding at RBR

Tuesdays, June 28 & July 19, 6am - 9am 

Discover the abundant bird life at Rock Bottom Ranch!  All experience levels are welcome. Enhance your knowledge, skills, and passion whether you are just beginning or an adept birder!

Ducklings at Rock Bottom Ranch 

June 13 - 17, 9am - 1pm, Ages 5-6
Our little ducklings will get to learn the ins and outs of animal care at RBR. Feed the goats, chickens, and pigs every day! 

 

Discovery Kids

June 20-24, 9am - 3pm, Ages 6-7
Discover what makes ACES such a magical place! Prerequisite - kids must be done with kindergarten to attend this class.

Roosters at Rock Bottom Ranch

June 21-24, 9am - 3pm, Ages 6-7
Cock a doodle do! Get up early and be ready for work at the ranch! You'll get to know RBR like the back of your hand.

Terraforms

June 27-July 1, 9:30am - 3:30pm, Ages 9-11
This collaboration with the Aspen Art Museum draws inspiration from the outdoor environment at Hallam Lake and the indoor exhibits at the Aspen Art Museum.

Wild Exploration

June 27-July 1, 9am - 3pm, Ages 7-8
Young explorers will establish a base camp on the preserve to use as their point of departure into the natural world of Hallam Lake.

Hallam Lake Kids

Drop-in Summer Series, June 21 - August 12
4-5 years: 9:30am - 11:30am, 6-8 years: 12:30pm - 2:30pm   
Kids, come to Hallam Lake and learn about things big and small! Each class will have something new for you to learn, discover, and create!

 

Things That Cluck, Crawl and Neigh All Day  

Rock Bottom Ranch Photo Workshop
June 29-July 1, 9am - 3pm, Ages 7-10
Grab a camera and come to RBR to photograph, discover, and learn about the animals that move and crawl about the ranch! Capture and study your images to interpret what happens in their world. 
Daily Programs Begin

ACES' naturalist guided hikes, daily programs, and custom programs all begin on June 18th.  Look for our guides giving free tours on top of Aspen Mountain, at Snowmass, the Ghost Town of Ashcroft, and the Maroon Bells.  Don't miss our Sunset Beaver Walks on Hallam Lake or meet our resident birds of prey during an Eagles, Hawks, and Owls program.  Looking for something to do with a special group?  Schedule a custom tour, hike, or walk with us!  We offer private, custom designed adventures specifically for your groups interests.

2010 Naturalists

Training Begins June 6th


ACES conducts an intensive Summer Naturalist Internship

program that trains and employs 14 naturalists each year. This program has been recognized by the Princeton Review as one of "America's Top 100 Internships." Summer Naturalists receive valuable education and experience while they conduct environmental education programs and natural history interpretive tours.  Be sure to attend ACES Membership Dinner and meet to newest members of our team!
