and employs 14 naturalists each year. This program has been recognized
by the Princeton Review
as one of "America's Top 100 Internships." Summer Naturalists receive
valuable education, training, and experience while they conduct
environmental education programs and natural history interpretive
tours. These programs take place at Hallam Lake Nature Preserve, Aspen
Mountain, Snowmass, and at the Maroon Bells. Meet the Naturalists! | Thank you!
| | Each
spring ACES launches its Children's Education Fund Drive to support the
educational programs we provide for local school groups. Visionary
Stuart Mace would be so pleased that the environmental education
classes he began at Hallam Lake in 1968 would become the nationally
recognized program it is today - making an impressive 30,000 student
contacts from 40 regional schools. Nearly every child in the community
benefits from ACES' Environmental Science program.
Thanks to
the generosity of 170 ACES members and school parents, $106,500 has
been raised toward our $120,000 goal. We are very appreciative of
everyone who has supported this effort. Be part of helping us
raise the remaining $13,500 needed to reach our goal by sending your
Children's Education Fund contribution to ACES at 100 Puppy Smith
Street Aspen, Colorado 81611 or go to Donate to ACES Thank you!

| | After
serving as Education Director since 2005, Adam Hancock is leaving ACES
at the end of this school year to pursue classroom teaching. He has
accepted a 4th grade teaching position at the Wheeler School in
Providence, RI and will move with his wife, Margaret, this summer. Adam
has been with ACES since 2001 and has served as a Summer Naturalist,
Winter Naturalist, and Environmental Educator.
 To
fill Adam's position, ACES has hired Sarah Schmidt, who has been an
ACES Educator since 2006. Sarah earned her B.F.A. in Art Education from
the University of Minnesota, Duluth and just completed her Masters in
Natural Science and Environmental Education from Hamline University.
Prior to joining ACES, she taught middle-school art in Minnesota. Photo: Sarah Schmidt teaches kids visiting Hallam Lake how to "pond dip" for aquatic insects. | | |
