Rocky Mountain Birds

Dr. Richard and Linda Beidleman
From the hummingbird to the golden eagle, the wonder of flight has always fascinated humans. Discover the variety of birds found in this nook of the Rocky Mountains. In the field, topics will include behavior, indicator species, songs and field markings, as well as classification and habitats of Rocky Mountain birds. The field trip on the first day will include the varied habitats of the Rio Grande Trail, Difficult Campground, and multiple Independence Pass sites. On the second day we will visit Rock Bottom Ranch, Frying Pan River Valley and Woody Creek sites. Both, the beginner and the advanced bird watcher are sure to be inspired by the Beidlemans' wealth of knowledge, humor and enthusiasm.

This course is offered for one graduate credit from Adams State College or Colorado State University. Call us for more details.

WHAT TO BRING: Please bring a day pack with lunch, plenty of water, raingear, clothing for warm/cold weather, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Bring any tools and guides specific to the class that you may have (binoculars and bird books for the Bird course; paper bags and a basket for the Mushroom course etc.)

HOW TO GET THERE: Please bike or walk to ACES whenever possible! We understand that you'll need to drive to ACES for certain classes - 6am birding classes, photo field trips, etc. However, when you can, make it a personal challenge and see if you can drive fewer times than last year!
