Morning Birding at Hallam Lake, 6/7/22
Tuesday, June 7, 2022, 6:30am-9:30am
Weather: Mostly Sunny
Location: Hallam Lake Nature Preserve
Following some much-needed rain, bird activity was high! Our mini-lesson focused on the Merlin app and ways to use it in the field, including learning bird sounds, confirming what we heard and picking up on the sounds of birds that we hadn't yet noticed. Merlin increased our bird list today by about 4 additional species that we might otherwise have missed. Highlights today included fledgling song sparrows, many mallard ducklings on the lake, learning the western tanager's song, and watching an active dipper nest. We enjoyed watching the incubating ospreys and herons and soaking in the morning chorus. It's a magical time of year for observing birds — join us on Thursday for a field trip through the Lake Christine burn area on Basalt Mountain! View all upcoming birding outings!
