Rock Bottom Ranch Site Coordinator

Job Overview

Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) seeks a Site Coordinator for our Rock Bottom Ranch (RBR) site located in Basalt, Colorado.  The Rock Bottom Ranch Site Coordinator will assist in the management of the visitor center, improve the visitor experience, and coordinate community and private events.  With the supervision of the Rock Bottom Ranch Director, this person will be responsible for all guest contact and daily management of the Field Studies Center to create a leading environmental learning center in both youth and adult environmental education.  

Rock Bottom Ranch serves as ACES' mid-valley hub for environmental education, wildlands preservation, and regenerative agriculture.  ACES offers numerous opportunities for visitors to become engaged at the ranch including farm tours, seasonal programming for children and adults, and community and private events.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Visitor Engagement at Rock Bottom Ranch
  2. Event Coordination
  3. Community Outreach and Education
  4. Facility Rental Coordination

1) Visitor Engagement at Rock Bottom Ranch -- Execute daily responsibilities to improve the visitor experience.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Provide leadership as RBR’s customer service representative to all ranch visitors.
  • Connect visitors with all ACES programs and events.
  • Lead daily farm tours with the assistance of the education and agriculture staff.
  • Continue to improve engagement with our Spanish-speaking community through farm tours, daily interactions and special events.
  • Improve the physical interior spaces and customer service aspects of RBR toward the goal of enhancing the visitor experience.  
  • Maintain all guest contact areas to ensure a clean and orderly visitor center.
  • Create and maintain exterior landscaping of the Field Studies Center and interior living wall exhibit.
  • Manage on-site sales in coordination with agriculture team.

2) Event Coordination—Coordinate and support community events located at the site

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 
  • Assist with planning and execution of community events located at RBR, including Farm to Table dinners, Burlap dinners, contra dance, and other seasonal events.
  • Assist ACES staff with Harvest Party, RBR Neighbors dinner, and other events as needed.

3) Community Outreach and Education—Support and promote ACES’ educational programming

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 
  • Support ACES Marketing Manager and other staff to ensure that promotional materials are exhibited at RBR and other mid-valley locations to advertise future programs and events.
  • Work with ACES staff to enhance community programs and events within the limitations of human resources and existing event/program schedules.
  • Reflect educational content from the agriculture and education teams through ACES RBR social media channels.  This will require coordination with other ACES staff.  
  • Act as a liaison between the agriculture and education teams for site updates, educational needs, upcoming events and programs, and volunteer opportunities.

4) Facility Rental Coordination -- Act as event coordinator for rentals of the site

  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 
  • Coordinate all rentals of the site including scheduling, invoicing, obtaining appropriate liability insurance, executing facility rental agreements, fielding questions, staffing and site preparation.  
  • Maintain online calendar, including staff scheduling for events.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  1. Become articulate in all agricultural operations on the ranch and assist with various agricultural projects including planting, harvesting, landscaping, deliveries, animal husbandry, mucking animal stalls, and other chores. 
  2. Support education programs; teach and lead classes as necessary.
  3. Other duties as assigned to further the mission of ACES.

Preferred but not required, candidates will have the following:

  • Conversational or fluent Spanish speaking
  • Food service and/or hospitality experience.
  • Experience and comfort in public speaking to groups.
  • Advanced creative, design, typography, and/or technology skills.
  • An interest in compelling visual communication.
  • Fluency in Google G-Suite and web-based services.  

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the Rock Bottom Ranch Director.


This position is located at ACES’ Rock Bottom Ranch site in Basalt, Colorado.

Position Dates

May 15, 2019 - October 16, 2019

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday with evening/weekend events throughout the season.

Compensation and benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience.  This is a seasonal, full-time position that is ineligible for the ACES benefit package. 


Off-site shared housing provided as part of compensation package.
