Awakening Vibration: Soundwalk, Yoga, and Council Retreat | two - CANCELED

Forge connections with both the natural world and the local community by joining Colleen Jones and Thompson Bishop for an immersive exploration of inner and outer landscapes of vibration and pulsation. The full-day workshop will feature soundwalking (any attempt at listening deeply to the sounds of the world), yoga (an ancient practice of merging movement with breath), and Council (a pan-cultural and non-hierarchical practice of listening and sharing).

Through these avenues of expression, the group will explore vibration and the rhythmic flow of aliveness. Exposing ourselves to sounds through soundwalking allows for a subtle expansion of awareness of the natural field that surrounds. Continuing with this contemplative awakening, yoga then serves as a method for bringing such awareness inside. The soft and open Council circle allows for these experiences to be shared.

This class meets at ACES at the Catto Center at Toklat, 11 miles up Castle Creek Road in Ashcroft. Colorado summers often have variable weather and as such it is a good idea to bring appropriate gear.  Please come prepared to be outside for the majority of the day at 9,500 ft.  Please bring a lunch, snacks, a water bottle, hiking poles (optional), sturdy hiking shoes, rain gear and warm clothes, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses, yoga mat and any props you might want, towel, journal and writing elements.

FOR THE COUNCIL PRACTICE-Please bring object that represents your connection to nature. This will be shared with one another as a way of opening our dialogue into this unfolding story together.

This class requires advance registration to ensure appropriate planning for the field experience. Registration period closes 2 days before the start of the class.

Colleen Jones (aka Collfeatherz) is a devout practitioner and teacher of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga, teaches in many styles, and shares a deeply felt-sense and connection to life. She is a graduate alumni of Naropa University with an MA in Transpersonal Ecopsychology. She has participated in Council, Mirroring the Four Shields, Rites of Passage work, and the Nature of Council. Coll feels a deep calling to be in authentic communion and dialogue with all beings, and in embodying what it means to be alive. She feels at home when she is living from an open heart, and is at home within the community of pulsating hearts of her partner T, their fury-kins and an abundance of natural wilderness beauty, aspen trees, pines, sacred land, river valleys, and high mountains within the Western Slope Region of Colorado. Coll is passionate about relating to and exploring the wilderness of the heart, simultaneously happening within inner and external vibrations and landscapes.

Thompson Bishop (aka Tbird) grew up in the hills of East Tennessee and the mountains of Colorado.  From an early age, Tbird began his study of music and a deep connection to the natural world. Trained in classical piano and voice, he received double undergraduate degrees in Music and Recording Arts. Deeply touched by the ecological struggles of the earth in human hands, Tbird returned to graduate studies in Animal Policy and Advocacy and then into Transpersonal Ecopsychology (MA) at Naropa University.  Tbird has a deep affinity for the Ragged Mountains and the Crystal Valley, and now finds sanctuary and home with his partner Colleen and their loving fury-kins just outside of Redstone.  Tbird loves trail running, hiking, mountain biking, yoga, and all things contemplative.  He is an active part of three boards, including the Advisory Board for the Prairie Dog Coalition and is the Vice President for the American Society of Acoustic Ecology.

During their last two years together, Thompson and Colleen have finished their MA program in Transpersonal Ecopsychology at Naropa University, attended Ojai Foundation's Council training, School of Lost Borders Nature of Council training, and are currently at the beginning stage of visioning a life sharing these wonderful avenues for connection to the larger world.
