Astronomy Night | May

ACES invites you to Hallam Lake this Spring to look up and learn about the night sky! Each evening starts with a 15-minute lesson covering basic astronomy concepts such as life-cycle of a star, reasons for meteor showers, what planets might be visible, or how phases of the moon work. After the mini lecture we will gather outside for the stargazing portion of the evening. Aspen High School Astronomy Club member Ricky Wojcik will be on-hand to guide you through the phenomena of the mountain night sky.
ACES Astronomy Nights are monthly gatherings throughout the year to appreciate the spectacle of the night sky. 2016 Spring dates are March 20, April 17 and May 15.  Join us for one evening or all of them - you will see and learn something different each time. We will have our Summer Schedule with even more Astronomy Nights available by April 2017.
Please RSVP - each evening is limited to 50 people.

May 15, 8pm – Big Bang!
What is the Big Bang and how do we know that it even happened? Come to ACES to explore the Big Bang theory and how everything in our universe came from it. If our Universe was “born” with Big Bang, does that mean it will die some day?

Aspen High School (AHS) student Ricky Wojcik is a promising local astronomer whose love for stars and the cosmos was ignited by the AHS Astronomy Club. Travis Moore, the AHS science teacher who started the club, has inspired many of young minds to look beyond our planet and gain a greater appreciation for our place in the Universe. Ricky loves looking at the stars and learning all there is about Astronomy - from attending numerous physics lectures and following astronomical discoveries on the web to bombarding other astronomers with questions.... All that is in addition to schoolwork, Nordic ski racing career and well, just being a regular high-school kid.
In Ricky’s words: “Aspen’s night sky is very special and Hallam Lake offers an incredible spot to look at the beautiful stars and space that surrounds us.”
