Meet Mariah Foley
Mariah Foley is in her fourth growing season at Rock Bottom Ranch, and tenth year measuring time in growing seasons. A love for outdoor recreation in the mountains morphed into a career in farming through a desire to deepen her relationship and connection with land. Farming allows Mariah to be a participant in stewarding the social and ecological communities that help nourish her. Before moving to the Roaring Fork Valley to work at Rock Bottom Ranch in 2019, Mariah farmed at larger scale organic vegetable farms in south central Pennsylvania and Boulder County, CO. At RBR, Mariah worked two seasons as the Vegetable Crew Lead, then stepped into the Agriculture Manager position in 2021.
Mariah’s farming career began while she was an undergrad at the University of Denver. Upon receiving the course catalog, Mariah highlighted and then took every class having to do with food systems and agriculture. She ended up with a cocktail of majors and minors in Geography, International Studies, and Sustainability. While earning her degree, she managed a community garden and worked on various food systems initiatives on DU’s campus, and worked on any farm in the area that would let her help out between college classes.
Mariah lives in Basalt with her stray farm cat turned snuggly house cat, Sprout, and her partner Aidan. When not farming, she loves to eat good food with good people, soak in hot springs, and is slowly working towards running every trail and jeep road on the crown.
