Job Overview

Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) seeks a Communications Coordinator for our Rock Bottom Ranch (RBR) site located in Basalt, Colorado. The Communications Coordinator will assist in the creation, management, and distribution of our agricultural education content. With the supervision of the Rock Bottom Ranch Director and coordination with various ACES team members, in specific the ACES Marketing Manager, this person will be instrumental in sharing our agricultural and land stewardship concepts by creating a digital resource for aspiring, beginning, and transitioning farmers.

Rock Bottom Ranch serves as ACES' mid-valley hub for environmental education, wildlands preservation, and regenerative agriculture. Rock Bottom Ranch’s vegetable and livestock production looks to natural systems for inspiration and utilizes regenerative and sustainable practices. The 113-acre site dedicates approximately 70 acres to natural wildlands and 35 acres to pasture-based, rotationally grazed livestock systems. To maximize production and extend the growing season, one acre of outdoor vegetable production is supported by four-season extension structures. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Capture and Manage Content
  • Design and Execution of Social Media Strategy
  • Build an Online Digital Resource Library


1. Capture and Manage Content
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Schedule and support in-house team to capture content;
  • Coordinate hired photographers and videographers;
  • Basic photo and video editing; 
  • Drive creative, interpretive content developed to engage a diverse audience;
  • Maintain consistency in brand and messaging for internal and external communications; and 
  • Assist with improving and implementing the master style guide.


2. Design and Execution of Social Media Strategy
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • With the guidance of ACES Marketing Manager and RBR Director, create and implement a social media strategy;
  • In coordination with the ACES Marketing Manager, coordinate external agriculture communications and social media to deliver a clear and dynamic message about our goals and strategies;
  • Execute strategy plan – publish content, manage media accounts, engage with audience;
  • Utilize data tracking and analytics tools to assess performance of social media and ad campaigns; and,
  • Refine and adjust strategies to reach target audience.


3. Build an Online Digital Resource Library
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • With the assistance of ACES team, determine best platform to host our informational material;
  • Ensure layout and design is in line with style guide and has consistency throughout all social platforms;
  • Organize and input content throughout the growing season; and,
  • Schedule and coordinate public launch of the website in the fall of 2020.


Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Become articulate in all agricultural operations on the ranch including various agricultural projects including planting, harvesting, landscaping, deliveries, animal husbandry, mucking animal stalls, and other chores. 
  • Other duties as assigned to further the mission of ACES.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred but not required, candidates will have the following:

  • Advanced creative, design, typography, and/or technology skills.
  • SEO comprehension.
  • Experience and comfort in public speaking to groups.


Dates of Employment

April 1, 2020 through October 31, 2020. 


Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the ACES' Rock Bottom Ranch Director.


Location

This position is located at ACES' Rock Bottom Ranch site in Basalt, CO.


Work Schedule

Terms for work schedule are negotiable. Estimated 10-12 hours per week. This position may have the opportunity to combine with the Rock Bottom Ranch Site Coordinator position for a full-time position.  


Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a seasonal, full-time position that is currently ineligible for the ACES benefit package.
